House owners are definitely pushing the boundaries now in terms of what they can do to their houses compared to what was considered a normal alteration a few years ago.
The not just taking the one single wall down inside the house. They are taking 2 or 3 walls down.
They are not just installing new bifolds in the back wall of the house. They are creating openings that extend across the full width of the house.
I’m currently designing a huge opening one that extends from one corner to the other corner simply in order to maximise natural light and space between the house and the garden.
And for some of the more adventurous house owners, not only do they want a full width opening, they want to go round the corner and up the side wall as well. So this means having to put a post in the corner where the doors meet in order to support the rest of the house above it. But some customers want a seamless transition between the back and the side with no corner post where the doors meet. Sounds tricky? Well yes it is tricky but it’s not impossible. This type of door system is now readily available and is big business.
So that’s what we do. We do the regular stuff and we do the tricky stuff as well.
